It’s not uncommon to hear people discuss the importance of positive thinking. It sounds so simple: re-train your thoughts to focus on what you do want, instead of worrying about what you don’t want.
Yet, so many of our thoughts are subconscious and happen without us being fully aware of it. For example, you might miss a bus and it’s easy to think “this always happens to me! I’m always late!”
How we talk to ourselves is so important though, because we are creating limitations & labels. Why would you want to slap a negative label on yourself?
Once I started exploring my own limiting beliefs it was shocking to see what I buried deep down inside myself. I pride myself on being an optimistic person, and I always try to frame my thoughts in a positive light.
So how did I figure out that I had these limiting beliefs beneath the surface? By using positive affirmations, and seeing how they felt in my mind.
For example, tell yourself “I am willing to be wealthy in both money and love.” Let that sit in your mind for 30 seconds to a minute.
How did that feel? Did your brain come up with any objections? Did it say “maybe eventually” or “wishful thinking” or come up with a self-criticism?
If something negative popped into your mind, it’s a limiting belief. It’s such an amazing feeling to start to free yourself from them.
You deserve happiness. You deserve love. You deserve joy. You deserve to be accepted for exactly who you are.
So start telling yourself that. Multiple times a day. Here are a few examples of affirmations you can use:
- My life is filled with joyful experiences making the best memories
- I am wealthy in both money and love
- I am open to the love and goodness around me
- I expand in abundance, success and love every day
At first saying these things to yourself might feel uncomfortable. That’s totally fine! You are making huge progress just by repeating the positive phrases that illustrate where you want to be.

The key is finding something slightly challenging to your mindset, but that feels incredibly aligned with your soul.
